I don’t own an iPad anymore. Partly because I needed money last summer whilst studying for MCATs, but mainly because I had no need for it. Instead I have a MacBook Air. Given that I would have to carry a bag with me regardless of whether I was bringing an iPad or a laptop, there was no difference in portability between the two (this was not true for my old 2008 MacBook, and would be even more true if I had one of the new MacBooks). So, it’s just me and my laptop. But, in what should I carry it and keep it safe? And from which case should I slip it smugly at the coffee shop? The Hard Graft Classic Laptop Folio.

Built to Hard Graft’s usual high standards, the Classic Folio combines safety and aesthetics in a slim package. The main case is made from hand-dyed Italian leather with a large felt pocket on the outside and German felt lining on the inside to protect your computer from damage. The exterior pocket is conveniently large enough to accommodate books, notebooks, chargers and stationary. The use of a scratch-free zipper is particularly pleasing as I have, with cheaper cases, suffered through the annoyance of scuffing of my laptop while sealing it into the case meant to protect it. As with many of our favourite products, the Folio will age with use and develop a beautiful unique patina. My current case, a utilitarian number from Thule, is typically kept hidden in my briefcase. The Folio, however, is a laptop sleeve that deserves display.
